BSBF hosted visit to Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) – Monday 5 October 2026
BSBF2026 invites company representatives to a BSBF hosted visit to Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB), a centre of excellence for research with synchrotron light and proton irradiation. HZB plays a vital role in international photon science, driving innovation in materials research with a focus on photovoltaics, batteries, synthetic fuels, green hydrogen, catalysis, and quantum devices.
Further details on registration deadlines can be found below.
Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB)
HZB in Germany operates the world-class synchrotron facilitiy BESSY II delivering powerful X-ray light for cutting-edge research in materials science, energy, and quantum technologies. The centre enables academic and industrial users to investigate the structure and function of matter at atomic scales.
Industrial collaboration is essential for maintaining and upgrading HZB’s advanced infrastructure, offering opportunities in high-tech components, precision engineering, electronics, control and data systems, cryogenics, and large-scale facility services.
What to expect of the visit
The visit starts with a welcome and introduction at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB), followed by short presentations on the centre and its flagship facility, BESSY II. Participants will then take a guided tour of the storage ring and experimental hall, gaining first-hand insights into the facilities, the science, and the unique research environment. The programme offers the chance to meet HZB management, exchange with leading scientists and engineers, and explore opportunities for industrial collaboration in an international high-tech setting.
Industrial opportunities at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin include:
- Accelerator and beamline components
- Advanced vacuum and cryogenic technologies
- Detector systems, electronics, and instrumentation
- Control and data systems
- High-precision mechanical engineering and motion systems
- Installation, maintenance, and technical facility services
