BSBF hosted visit to ESS – Tuesday 2 June 2026
BSBF2026 invites company representatives to a BSBF hosted visit to the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden — one of the most ambitious research infrastructures in the world for neutron science. ESS aims to produce the most intense pulsed neutron beams ever created, enabling researchers and industry to probe the structure and dynamics of materials across a wide range of scientific and technological fields.
European Spallation Source (ESS)
At ESS, neutrons are generated by colliding high-energy protons with a heavy metal target, producing neutron pulses that are directed to world-class instruments for cutting-edge research. The facility’s advanced neutronic infrastructure supports studies in energy materials, pharmaceuticals, soft matter, quantum materials, engineering systems and more. By fostering collaboration between academia and industry, ESS drives innovation in materials design, sustainable technologies and future products.
Industrial engagement plays an essential role in the realisation and evolution of ESS. Procurement opportunities span precision engineering, advanced manufacturing, cryogenics, vacuum technology, controls and instrumentation, installation, and technical services required to build and operate a facility of this scale.
Industrial opportunities at ESS include:
- Target station systems and moderators
- Neutron instruments and beamline components
- Precision engineering and specialised materials
- Cryogenics and thermal management solutions
- Vacuum and ultra-high vacuum technology
- Instrumentation, control systems and data acquisition
- Installation, maintenance and technical support services
